Design-Blog #3

Photo by ATC Comm Photo: https://www.pexels.com/photo/three-black-camera-lens-952260/   Camera Lenses Camera lenses can be the most vital tool in a photographer's kit, shaping the way a scene is captured. Each lens type offers a unique perspective. Here's a brief overview: Prime Lenses: Fixed focal length, e.g., 50mm. Often offer larger apertures for low light and a shallower depth of field. Zoom Lenses: Variable focal lengths, like 18-55mm or 70-200mm. Versatile for subjects that are constantly moving or changing in distance. Wide-Angle Lenses: Capture expansive scenes, typical in landscape photography. Common focal lengths: 14mm, 24mm, 35mm. Telephoto Lenses: Bring distant subjects closer, great for wildlife or sports. Might range from 70mm to 600mm or more. Macro Lenses: Designed for extreme close-ups, capturing minute details. Can achieve a 1:1 magnifica...

Composition Exercise

Best Composed Shot I took a series of photographs of this plant; definitely around 30 shots; I tried to get some nice close-ups while testing and getting accustomed to a new camera flash I bought. I kept this particular one because it's the most focused and well-composed one in the series.
Elements of Design in Photography Shape I cropped this image to emphasize the shapes of this bridge from this perspective, the image also contains elements of balance and symmetry, which conveys a sense of firmness and stability. Line I emphasized the lines of this hopscotch pattern to give it more depth and interest, however, I would prefer if I ve chosen tighter aperture to get the whole element in focus. Format   I decided to crop this image to an extreme point, I was able then to get rid of lot of distracting spaces. the form factor also gives the image more interest and appeal. Value I boosted the contrast of this image by adjusting the shadows, highlights, contrast, and whites in the Light tab in Lightroom. I adjusted also the mid-tones a bit. the resulting image is more contrasted and the subject is more pronounced. Texture tree trunks offer magnificent textures that can't be ignored. Color I've chosen this image because of its colorful nature, yet with a limited numbe...

Photography Project #4 ( Landscape photography)

Photography project #4  Landscape photography Lake Parker Park offers wonderful landscape photography opportunities. I wasn't able to venture deeper into the park due to rain, but I did capture some beautiful images. I used an f-stop number of 1/8 to 1/10 and set the shutter speed to a fast 1/320 to capture any water movement or birds in flight. However, I wasn’t fortunate enough to photograph any flying birds. As usual, I kept my ISO on automatic. During post-processing, I began by cropping the images to refine their composition. I then applied some presets to give most of the images a gloomy feel, except for one. For that particular image, I chose to make it brighter and more colorful. It's a bit exaggerated, but the idea was to add some interest, especially since the image contains a lot of negative space.

Creativity #4

WEEK 4: CREATIVITY  Light Painting For this week's creativity blog, I decided to delve into the world of light painting. While the outcomes were satisfactory, they indicated that I need to further hone my framing and movement skills. Nonetheless, I'm pleased with the results. Process : I mounted my camera on a tripod and manually focused on the area where I intended to execute the light painting. I minimized all ambient lighting as much as possible. I set my ISO to 100, the shutter speed to 6 seconds, and the aperture to f/9. To avoid any camera shake from pressing the capture button, I set a 10-second timer. With the shutter open, I began my light painting. Here are the results :

Composition in Photography Composition in photography refers to the arrangement and distribution of elements within a frame. It involves the deliberate placement of subjects, lines, colors, and shapes to craft a visually appealing and effective image. Importance of Composition Composition serves several essential functions: Guiding the Viewer’s Attention : It directs the viewer's eye to the primary subject and aids in constructing the narrative of the image. Enhancing Visual Appeal : Proper composition lends balance, structure, and beauty to a photograph. Techniques Used for Composition in Photography Rule of Thirds : Achieved by dividing the frame into a 3x3 grid. Place the subject or primary elements along these grid lines or at their intersections for a more balanced and dynamic image. Design Week #2

Light Painting Photo by mahda doglek on Unsplash Light painting is one of the coolest creative uses of a DSLR or any camera with a controllable shutter speed. Also known as light graffiti or light drawing, the technique behind it is to use a long exposure time, giving the photographer plenty of time to paint the scene using a light source, usually a torch. What You Will Need: A camera with manual mode. You should be able to control the shutter speed and aperture. A tripod to ensure the camera stays still while capturing the exposure. A light source, such as a torch, an LED light, or even your smartphone. A dark environment, which is crucial to contrast the light painting with the scene. The Process: Mount your camera on the tripod. Set the camera to manual mode and select a long exposure time; it's best to start at 30s. You should adjust the aperture based on the ambient light. A good starting point is between...

Creativity Week#3

Experimenting With Textures. In this creativity exercise, I applied one of my texture images to various subjects. Specifically, I chose to superimpose the texture onto letters. By experimenting with different blending methods, I was able to generate some   design ideas. Here are the results:

Photo by Todd Diemer on Unsplash Low ISO is Always Better, Really? It's commonly accepted that lower ISO values yield images with less noise and more faithfully capture light without much alteration. However, employing higher ISO can be beneficial and is often essential in various situations. Every photographer should understand the trade-offs for each scenario. After all, capturing a slightly noisy image is far better than snapping a blurry one — or even worse, missing the shot entirely. So, when might higher ISO settings be necessary? Low Light Conditions : Increasing sensor sensitivity can be incredibly beneficial for capturing well-exposed photos in dim lighting without resorting to a flash. While this may result in noisier images, modern post-processing tools, especially AI-enhanced features in the latest versions of Adobe Lightroom, can rectify much of this noise. Fast Action Subjects : To freeze motion effectively, you'll often ...

Week 3 project: Pet photography.

Week 3 project: Pet photography. During my visit to Lake Parker Park to take landscape photos, I unexpectedly came across a charming puppy. I couldn't resist and shifted to pet photography. Though I've forgotten her name, I'll refer to her as Mocha. I used a wide-angle prime lens for my shots. This choice made composition challenging, and I had to get very close to Mocha to achieve some bokeh effect . Image#1 Image#1 & Image#2: With an f-1.4 aperture, I blurred the background in Image#1. I then cropped the sky and highlighted Mocha by using the subject mask in Lightroom. The same method was used for all the next photos. Image#2 Image#3: I added a background blur in post, and I removed a distracting red sign that was located next  to the dock. I like how it turned out. Image#3 Image#4: I aimed for a dreamy feel, using a preset from the recommendations, and tweaking the tone levels. Image#4

Photography Week#3 -Textures-

Textures Having a diverse collection of texture images in your library can be incredibly useful when you want to enhance and add more visual interest to your design work. For instance, incorporating a grungy texture into a logo, display text, or blending it with an image can impart a sense of ruggedness, long-term use, and durability. I captured these pictures with the aim of preserving as much texture detail as possible through the lens. During the post-processing phase, I kept the adjustments minimal, primarily applying AI denoising and making slight tweaks to the tone curve.
